Peaceful hiking trails, outdoor sports, delicious food, and historical attractions
You may have to stay longer if you hope to fit it all in! Luckily, the whole area is conveniently reached from Tallinn, so you can spend more time exploring and less time traveling.

Wintertime hiking in Central Estonia
You can feel free in the wide-open spaces of Central Estonia.
A bog hike is a must for taking in winter scenery — try wandering around Kodru Bog or following the wooden walkway at Kakerdaja Bog. Walk through Väätsa Nature Reserve, listen to the flowing water of Norra Springs, or admire the snow-covered surroundings of Prandi Springs. Mukri Bog was formed about 10,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest bogs in Estonia. There's an observation tower that offers a bird's-eye view of the frozen landscape.
Kicksledding is another great way to enjoy the forest trails of Central Estonia during the winter. Afterward, you can warm up by the flames of a bonfire, drink hot tea, and enjoy a small snack.
No matter the weather, you can enjoy the stunning beauty that Estonian nature has to offer.

Make some furry friends
The cold doesn't bother these animals!
While you're hiking in the forest, you can always look for animal tracks. Of course, spotting wild animals takes a bit of luck, so if you're looking for a sure thing, here's where you can go to get up close and personal with some cute creatures.
- Wile Alpaca Farm — Pet the animals and take home something special made from ultra-warm, super-soft alpaca wool.
- Paasiku Dogs Manor — Siberian huskies thrive in cold temperatures. If there's enough snow, you can go dogsledding; if not, you can take them hiking!
- Toosikannu Nature Resort — This place is home to a herd of about 500 red deer. They have two safari options: a guided walking tour or driving your own car through the park.
- Metsakuurort Animal Park and Aviary — Here you can see Highland cows, dwarf goats, peacocks, ferrets, and more. You can also buy feed to give to the smallest animals yourself!

Winter's early sunsets are extra beautiful with a snow-covered landscape.
Have fun in the snow!
There's no fun like snow fun... as you'll find out on the snowmobile trail at Toosikannu Holiday Centre. Or perhaps you'd rather see the snow from the basket of a hot air balloon!
If you enjoy traditional skiing, set your sights on the highest peak of Central Estonia. In addition to the legendary cross-country skiing tracks, Valgehobusemäe Ski and Recreation Centre offers a mountain ski slope with a snow cannon, a snowboarding park, and fun snow tubing activities.
You can also find illuminated ski tracks and a sledding hill for children at Kuningamäe near Põltsamaa. There is also a ski slope where you can test your skiing and snowboarding skills. If you want to follow in the footsteps of Estonian skating champions, head to Adavere Ice Skating Rink, where Saskia Alusalu and Marten Liiv both started their journey to the Olympics.

The Estonian Dairy Museum is where industrial heritage, unique product design, and delicious tastes come together. You can even create some new flavours for yourself at the curd snack workshop.
The Stroller Museum in Käru has more than 200 historic prams and buggies. The museum is mere meters from the train station, making it an easy place to pop in for a visit on the weekend.
The heart of Estonia invites you to explore. Visit the Wittenstein Activity Museum in Paide Tower, which transports you to the 19th century with its authentic small-town atmosphere. The museum also offers a number of workshops where you can learn about the timeless trades of silversmithing, leatherworking, and pharmacology.

History fans and book lovers will want to visit the A.H. Tammsaare Museum in Vargamäe.
It preserves the birthplace of famous Estonian writer Anton Hansen Tammsaare, the author of Truth and Justice, which was recently adapted into a critically acclaimed movie. This farm inspired the book; a visit will give you a better understanding of 19th-century farm life in Järva County.
Not far from Paide, just a half-hour drive away, is Põltsamaa Castle. The red church tower you can see from far away will guide the way. Did you know that the first food tubes used by astronauts were created here in Põltsamaa? You can learn more about space food and the castle's history at the Põltsamaa Museum next to the castle.
