Visit Estonia introduces Estonia to the world

The national Visit Estonia site is maintained by the Tourism Department of the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency

The Visit Estonia site is the nation’s official tourism portal, showcasing the country as a diverse and attractive travel destination. Apart from English, the site is available in Estonian, Finnish, Latvian and German. It offers plenty of image and video material, as well as articles with inspiring and practical information about Estonian culture, nature, food, events and tourism services, helping visitors plan an unforgettable trip to the country.

Ours is the world’s biggest and most popular tourism site showcasing Estonia for the foreign market, receiving almost 8 million visitors every year.

How does information find its way onto the site?

Visit Estonia centralises information about the tourism products and services available in the country.

Any business in the tourism sector wishing to showcase itself on the site – which is free to use – can add its details itself. To do this, they must first make sure that their products and services meet our guidelines and then register as a website user. They can then enter their information. A regional representative of the Visit Estonia website then verifies the information before publishing it.

Local destination management organisations or DMOs play a key role in both checking information and bringing new businesses and their products and services to the site.

How are articles produced for the site?

DMOs are also our main partners, providing content and recommendations for articles to be published on the site. The professional associations and federations that unite Estonia’s tourism companies are another important source of content. We also draw on the expertise of Visit Estonia’s theme leaders (nature tourism, food tourism and event & cultural tourism) to create articles.

Places, products and services are turned into easy-to-read texts by professional content writers who provide copy in their own language, making them well qualified to promote Estonia. Doing this for us in Finnish is Paula, while in English it’s Hillary, in Estonian it’s Terttu, in German it’s Felix and in Latvian it’s Ilze.

What else does Visit Estonia do?

Apart from managing a multilingual tourism website, Visit Estonia fosters Estonia’s reputation as a travel destination worth visiting, and supports the tourism sector by developing products and services.

We organise marketing campaigns in target markets that are important to Estonia, and periodically run campaigns in all destinations with direct connections, plus special projects to raise Estonia’s international profile. To ensure that journalists from influential publications and travel agents, wholesalers and tour operators around the world who make key business decisions are informed about Estonia, we bring them to the country on familiarisation trips, organise our own international business events and represent Estonia at major business events where tourism businesses and destinations are often involved as partners.

We work with international tourism networks, arrange tourism surveys and offer development programmes and training to Estonian tourism businesses.
