Useful information about motorcycling in Estonia

Here's what you need to know to make your journey through Estonia as pleasant and safe as possible.

Speed limits and traffic rules

Estonia's traffic rules are similar to those in most European countries.

The maximum speeds are as follows:

  • In town: 50 km/h, can be 30 km/h in some areas
  • Outside of town: 90 km/h
  • On expressways: 110 km/h (indicated by signs)

In Estonia, helmets are mandatory for motorcyclists and passengers (helmets must comply with ECE standard 22). You should always carry your driver's license, vehicle documents, and green insurance card. Lights must always be on when driving, even during the day and when visibility is good.

Carrying a first aid kit and a safety vest is not mandatory, but having them both with you is a good idea.

There is a zero alcohol limit in Estonia!

There are no toll roads.

The general emergency number is 112.

Gas stations and repair shops

Petrol stations are common in Estonia, especially in cities and along main roads. However, in more rural areas, it's advisable to make sure you have a full tank beforehand, as there's a longer distance between fueling stations.

Repair shops are available in most major cities. If you have technical problems on the road, you can contact roadside assistance companies like PAF Autoabi or Autoliit. You can also find specialized motorcycle workshops in Tallinn and Tartu.

Road conditions and weather

Road conditions in Estonia are generally good. There are well-maintained roads, especially in the cities and along the coast. However, you may encounter gravel roads in more remote areas, especially in the east of the country.

Estonian weather is mild in summer but can be rainy, especially in spring and autumn. Make sure you wear appropriate clothing and check the weather forecast beforehand.

Jõgevatreff — annual meeting of motorcyclists since 1992

On the last weekend in July, bikers from Estonia and further abroad gather in Jõgeva County for good food, good music, and a chance to share their passion for motorcycles with other enthusiasts. The distance between Tallinn and the campsite in Kuremaa Manor Park on Lake Kuremaa is about 150 kilometers. On Friday, visitors also have the chance to head out on group rides to explore other areas of Estonia.
