Kaleste Beach
Kaleste Beach on the southern coast of Kõpu Peninsula is one of Hiiumaa's most famous sandy beaches, with forested dunes, the warm sea, and a peaceful coastal landscape. The beach, with a shallow, sandy bottom, is well-suited for families with children and for summer swimming. The long sandy beach offers a pleasant resting place for both sunbathers and beach walkers.
Next to the beach is the Kaleste camping area, which offers picnic spots, fire pits, dry toilets, and space for pitching a tent. The 1.8-kilometer-long Kaleste nature trail, which leads through coastal pine forests and dunes and introduces the coastal nature of Kõpu Peninsula, begins at Kaleste Beach. Information boards along the trail provide an overview of the area's flora and coastal communities.
The Kaleste area is also known in spring and autumn as a stopover for migratory birds and a good place for birdwatching. Since there is little light pollution and few people around, this place is also popular for enjoying sunsets and starlit skies.
Peaceful nature, wide sandy beach, and pine forests offer visitors a pleasant beach holiday in Hiiumaa!
