Viru Bog snowshoe tour with a nature guide
Our Viru Bog snowshoe tour takes you to the bogs of Lahemaa National Park in a way that walking on the boardwalk cannot – directly to the center of the park's vast bogs. Walking with snowshoes makes the bog accessible and allows you to experience this environment directly, at a slow pace, using all your senses. It's like a soft gym where every step helps you better understand the bog's unique qualities.
During the hike, we move through the bog on snowshoes, stop by a bog lake and a viewing tower, and explore how the bog has formed and what development stages it has undergone. We learn about the adaptations of bog plants, observe animal tracks, and explore the role of peat moss in the bog ecosystem. We also discuss whether peat is a renewable or non-renewable natural resource and why this topic is important today.
During the hike, we also take a break where we brew tea and have a small snack. In warmer weather, the bolder ones have the opportunity to refresh themselves in the bog pool.
