Valaste hiking and study trail

The Valaste hiking and study trail runs through the Ontika landscape protection area and is currently accessible only as a round-trip journey with a descent at the Valaste waterfall via stairs and along the boardwalks under the cliff to the seaside. The trail extends about 300 meters through the cliff forest, on the scree slope below the cliff, where a boardwalk has been built, and there is a descent of almost 55 meters from the cliff and the same ascent back up. The Ontika cliff and the natural values of the area are introduced by information boards along the trail.

There is a cliff forest between the terrace and the sea, where you can see extraordinary nature in the Nordic countries, as well as one of the most primeval forest types in Estonia. The forest is rich for insects and bats. The Valaste Waterfall is also on the trail.

NB! The Ontika end of the hiking trail, the stairs, and the boardwalk under the cliff are impassable and currently closed due to landslides.
