Vabamu — Museum of Occupations and Freedom

This is a museum of occupations, resistance, restoration, and freedom.

The Museum of Occupations and Freedom Vabamu is located in the center of Tallinn on the slope of Toompea. The museum invites you to discover Estonia’s recent history through people’s personal stories and to reflect on the value of freedom.

The permanent exhibition "Freedom Without Borders" introduces life during and after the occupations, revealing the story of the restoration of Estonia’s independence and the preservation of freedom through different life paths. An e-guide makes the exhibition easier to understand; it is available in ten languages. The display is complemented by the audio journey "From 'Such People' to LGBT Activism", which deals with the stories of LGBT people and is the only one of its kind in museums in the Baltic states.

A special family level has been created for visitors with families, where children can discover history in a way that is understandable and engaging for them. The exhibition is partially accessible to people with hearing, visual, and mobility impairments.

Vabamu offers food for thought to different generations, connecting stories of the past with the present and with the safeguarding of freedom.
