The Red Tower — Pärnu's oldest building

The Red Tower is the oldest preserved structure in Pärnu. Built during the 15th century in the southeast corner of the Hanseatic city of Uus-Pärnu as part of the medieval fortifications, the Red Tower was the city's prison until the 19th century. The ironstone tower got its name from the brick lining that covered it inside and out. In the 17th century, the tower had four floors and a 6-meter-deep prison floor. Three floors have been preserved.

A branch of the Pärnu Museum is open in the Red Tower, featuring a panoramic cinema introducing the history of medieval Pärnu and the Red Tower.
