Tartu Observatory
In Toome Hill Park, you'll find Tartu Observatory, one of the most renowned landmarks in Estonia's scientific history and an internationally significant astronomical center, where observations and discoveries have influenced global science.
The permanent exhibition provides an overview of the development of astronomy and space exploration. Visitors can see a replica of the Fraunhofer telescope, historical observatory measuring instruments, and an Arabic celestial globe; learn about constellations; and observe meteor movements. The exhibition is suitable for enthusiasts of all ages.
The observatory hosts planetarium shows that bring the starry sky to visitors even during the day. Additionally, lectures, workshops, family days, excursions, and evening sky observations are organized.
The observatory courtyard also houses one of the historical measurement points of the Struve Geodetic Arc. This measurement line, over 2800 km long and used to determine the Earth's shape and size more accurately, has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2005.
