Tartu Midsummer Day

The city of Tartu invites locals and all friends and guests to a Midsummer Day celebration at the Estonian National Museum's outdoor area on the shore of Lake Raadi.

This is an annual summer event that celebrates the longest day of the year and the magical Midsummer Night, when darkness never comes. Midsummer Day is one of the most important and beloved holidays in Estonian culture. It is a time when bonfires are lit, families and friends gather together, and old folk traditions — which are an important part of Estonian identity and community spirit — are kept alive.

We invite you to be part of Tartu's Midsummer Day, which is full of traditional atmosphere, new encounters, Midsummer games, creative workshops, and friendly competitions for guests of all ages. The fair area offers handicrafts, local food, and drinks. The day often begins with songs and dances, and the evening culminates in a large Midsummer bonfire, around which people gather until late.

We encourage you to travel to Tartu's Midsummer Day in an environmentally friendly way: by bike, public transport, or on foot.
