Song Celebration

The Song Celebration is one of Estonia's most important and beloved cultural traditions, beginning in 1869 in Tartu. It brings together tens of thousands of singers and even more listeners at the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds. The tradition of song and dance festivals is included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, and its significance extends far beyond a grand musical event.

The Song Celebration carries forward Estonians' love for their land, language, culture, and customs, and connects different generations. Powerful mass choirs, the united voice of thousands of singers, and the special atmosphere of the Tallinn Song Festival Grounds create an experience whose true magnitude is hard to put into words. The festival features nearly 30,000 singers dressed in Estonian folk costumes, and the communal singing transforms the entire festival grounds into one large choir.

The Song Celebration is an event that is not simply watched from the sidelines – its power and meaning must be experienced firsthand. Even without knowing the Estonian language, you can feel the power of music and the sense of unity – come discover Estonian culture and music together with Estonians!
