Nõmme–Mustamäe Landscape Protection Area and Hiking Trails
The Nõmme–Mustamäe Landscape Protection Area is located just a few minutes' drive from the center of Tallinn. It is a place of nature, history, and cultural heritage, and it's a joy to explore in every season.
The protected area is criss-crossed by illuminated hiking trails that run along the steep slope of Mustamäe and lead through diverse landscapes, pine forests, and springs. The journey offers views of Glehn Castle and the observatory of Nõmme's founder, Nikolai von Glehn. Visitors are allowed to pick berries and mushrooms on the hiking trails and make fires in designated areas.
The hiking trails are special because of the diverse landscape. There are 25 natural springs here, including the well-known Rõõmuallikas. The landscape provides habitat for ten protected plant species, nearly a hundred lichen species, and more than 120 bird species. The Nõmme–Mustamäe landscape protection area is worth the trip for both nature enthusiasts and those who wish to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
