Laelatu Meadow

Did you know that Estonia is home to a place that breaks the biodiversity records for all of Europe? Near Virtsu in Western Estonia, nestled within the Puhtu-Laelatu Nature Reserve, lies the Laelatu wooded meadow. It is one of the most unique natural habitats in Northern Europe, where in 2001, as many as 76 plant species were counted on a single square meter.

Laelatu is a true paradise for orchids, where about two-thirds of Estonia's native orchids grow, including the beautiful lady's slipper and rare fingered orchids. The best time to visit this natural wonder is in June and July, when the meadow bursts into a captivating sea of flowers.

If you want to experience more than Pärnu Beach or the city, then Matsalu National Park and the nearby Laelatu are a must-visit. For a private seminar or accommodation amidst unique natural tranquility, you can also rent the University of Tartu Biology Station.

Plan your nature holiday today and come discover the unique flora of Laelatu Meadow, European record holder and orchid paradise!
