Kassari Museum House
The Kassari Museum House is one of Hiiumaa Museums' best-known branches, located in the historic limestone manor house of Kassari, where you can explore a permanent exhibition introducing the history and culture of Hiiumaa: "Life on the island. Fire, water, air, earth."
The main idea of the exhibition is to explore the life of Hiiumaa through primordial elements and to show how people have lived alongside the sea for centuries.
This approach clearly highlights how interconnected all phenomena, activities, and events are. At the center is always the important aspect that contributes to human life on this island, or what has threatened it at various times. The objects and stories in the rooms focus on the simple yet important skills, knowledge, and experiences of the island's indigenous people.
The museum house also hosts a gift and book shop, offering a wide range of Hiiumaa handicrafts, souvenirs, and books. The museum house is surrounded by a historic apple orchard and a cozy picnic area, where visitors can enjoy Kassari's peaceful nature and island atmosphere.
