Exhibition "The Splendour of the Hanseatic League: How Wealth Was Made in the Middle Ages"
The Great Guild Hall exhibition "The Splendour of the Hanseatic League: How Wealth Was Made in the Middle Ages" centers around a Hanseatic merchant, whose life story provides visitors with insight into the essence of the Hanseatic system and the arrival of wealth and culture characteristic of the Middle Ages to these lands.
The exhibition features medieval objects, archaeological items displayed to the public for the first time, and other rarities. The Hanseatic League was a medieval trade alliance primarily comprising German-speaking cities, with trading offices spanning all of Northern Europe, from London to Novgorod. Such commercial interaction meant prosperity, both for the individual merchant and his hometown. Thus, Lisbon salt, Valencia pottery, and Flemish fabrics reached Tallinn. Throughout the Hanseatic realm, a remarkably similar world of objects and culture spread.
Come and experience Hanseatic history up close – this is your opportunity to dive into the world of medieval wealth and culture in Tallinn's Old Town!
