Exhibition "From Restorer to Conservator"

An exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of the conservation department at the Estonian Art Museum introduces the field primarily through artworks from the 20th century. The creations of artists from the past century have been a daily presence on the desks of the museum's conservators since the department's establishment.

Modern sculpture and painting pose complex challenges for conservators, as newer materials, such as 20th-century paper, have not withstood the test of time as well as those used by masters centuries ago. The exhibition at the Adamson-Eric Museum in Tallinn's Old Town invites visitors to notice the structure, materials, techniques, and lifespans of artworks.

In the rush of everyday life, we tend to forget that nothing is eternal, but conservators have the skills and tools to extend the lifespan of art and give art lovers the chance to enjoy the works for longer.

Curators: Isabel Aaso-Zahradnikova, Kärt Lend, Margit Pajupuu, Kersti Koll
