Sõir cheesemaking workshop at the Estonian Dairy Museum
Sõir is a traditional homemade cheese from South Estonia. In Seto and Võru counties, a traditional version is made mainly with caraway seeds. The raw material for sõir is curd, which, unlike cheese, is not aged. We will try to make this rather quick cheese spread ourselves.
Workshop participants dress up as dairy workers and learn to make sõir, and then eat it afterwards. They will also get to see the museum exhibition and look around the old dairy.
In addition to making sõir, the museum also offers other workshops, such as making butter and karaski, ice cream, and kohuke.
