Exhibition "The Mei Sisters: Avant-Garde and the Everyday Life"
Kristine (1895–1969), Lydia (1896–1965), and Natalie (1900–1975) Mei, daughters of a sailor from Hiiumaa, entered Estonian art life in the second half of the 1910s. By incorporating unusual themes and approaches for female artists into their work and using marginal, less appreciated techniques, they became masters of Estonian modernism.
The exhibition features drawings, watercolors, small sculptures and collages, consumer objects, and unique, pseudonymously handmade booklets. The works reflect the contemporary times of the sisters, directly and indirectly.
