Exhibition of refugee artist Mart Org "An Artist with Three Home Shores"
During the Great Escape of 1944, an estimated 80,000 people left Estonia. Among them were nine-year-old Mart Org and his family from Pärnu, who fled to Sweden via Kihnu in a fishing boat.
There, the boy from Pärnu became a respected painter who divided his life between three countries – Estonia, Sweden, and Italy; home and a sense of home have always been central to his work. He loved to paint themes close to his soul, people close to his heart, and the nuances inherent in different cultures.
The exhibition also features work by his mother, Leida Org, whose textile paintings use the appliqué technique.
