Seikle Vabaks kayaking or canoeing trip on the high waters of Soomaa National Park
When the spring flood, also known as the fifth season, arrives in Soomaa National Park, time begins to flow differently. Rivers rise out of their beds and flood forests, meadows, roads, and hiking trails, transforming the entire landscape of the national park into a temporary underwater world. This is a rare natural phenomenon in Estonia, not found elsewhere in Europe!
The floods occur due to a unique combination of spring rains, warm temperatures, and the spring thaw. Usually, it happens at the end of March or the beginning of April. However, depending on weather and precipitation, this phenomenon can also occur at other times of the year, including autumn and, rarely, winter. It is precisely during the flood that it is worth visiting Soomaa to glide through flooded forests and meadows in a kayak or canoe, feeling the quiet power of the water and experiencing Soomaa in its most authentic form.
Note: The flood is short-lived, so it is important to respond quickly and book a hike as soon as the water level begins to rise.
Soomaa's fifth season offers a unique nature experience! Come and let Soomaa's fifth season carry you away!
