Manija Landscape Protection Area and Visitor Center

Manija Island in Pärnu County is a genuine place where time moves at its own pace and nature tells a story.

To preserve the unique environment, the Manija Landscape Protection Area has been established. It is filled with semi-natural habitats, coastal meadows, and island landscapes. Here you will find juniper fields and the sound of the sea accompanied by birdsong and, in spring, the nocturnal concert of the natterjack toad. Walking around, you may encounter sheep and enjoy the silence.

Manija Island, along with Kihnu, is listed on UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage. At the heart of the island is a visitor center, open by appointment, where you will find a museum and exhibitions that tell stories about local nature and the UNESCO-listed cultural heritage. You can reach the end of the island in about an hour if you start walking from the harbor. At the end of the island is a small lighthouse, which is a good place to rest your feet and admire the view of the sea. You can reach the island by ferry from Munalaiu Harbor or take a kayak tour.

Manija Island invites you to take a break and experience something truly authentic!
