Aidu quarry, Aidu-Nõmme rest area and campfire site

One section of the long Kauksi-Penijõe hiking trail that crosses Estonia runs through the Aidu quarry. The trail through the former oil shale quarry in Aidu offers a unique landscape and beautiful views. You can cross channels on rafts and climb up and down mountains. The trail also includes the Aidu-Nõmme resting place by the canal with blue water, where you can cook and rest. From the campfire site begins a smaller circular Aidu hiking trail, which is 4 km long, and from the boards along the trail, you can read about the formation of the Aidu quarry and learn more about oil shale.
At the resting place, there is an open forest hut or laavu, a shelter for sitting, and a covered campfire site with a grill grate.
Hikes on foot or with kick scooters are organized in the Aidu quarry area and along the channels by the Alutaguse Hiking Club. Safari or water hikes are offered by Adrenaator.
