REQUEST INFORMATION View on map

In Paide, a church was established as early as in the 13th century; however, the church building has been destroyed several times during various wars. In 1767, the city started to build a church again which was consecrated in 1786. On 10 May 1845, the church was destroyed in a fire. Between 1847 and 1848, a new building was constructed in late classicist style with neo-baroque touches.

Paide Church of the Holy Cross is unique among Estonian churches because its tower is not located on the western side but on the southern side, in the middle of the building.

The interior of Paide church is modest. The choir is separated from the nave by a wide triumphal arc. The most important elements in the interior of the church are its neo-baroque altar and pulpit and rare stained-glass windows.
