KGB Cages Museum

KGB Cages Museum is situated in Riia hill in "grey building" where in 1940-50-s situated South-Estonia Centre of NKVD/KGB. For visitors is opened cellar part where used to be the cages of the arrested. Some of the cages, punishment cells and corridor part of the cellar are restored in their initial shape. Other former cages contain exposition that gives overview about post-war Estonian freedom fighting and about communist regime crimes. Among others it is possible to see the photos and things brought from Siberia prison camps, as well as materials about history of bushwhackers and secret resistance organisations.

  • Well worth dropping in if your in Tartu.

    Difficult to find (tip: its in the basement). Plenty of information in English, paints a clear story. Pity that it doesn't say more about the fall of the USSR and how the KGB left. Could do without...
