Heritage day "Village life on the northern shore of Lake Peipus"
The exhibition gives an overview of village life on the northern shore of Lake Peipus in the early 20th century. It introduces visitors to traditional rye harvesting, haymaking, fishing and log rafting, and tells the stories of the people of that time, based on fieldwork materials stored in the Estonian National Museum (ENM). Visitors can also learn about collectors of folk heritage and ethnologists who have visited the area over the years. At the centre of the exhibition is the fieldwork conducted in the summer of 1936 by ENM director Ferdinand Linnus in the Tudulinna and Rannapungerja area, where he documented local life with a camera – mainly the work and daily activities at the Kelu Farm.
Compiled by Marleen Metslaid, researcher at the ENM.
