Two centuries of Russian rule had a large impact on the city of Pärnu. Churches and stone moles appeared in the cityscape, which can still be admired in the city to this day. The fortress town became a resort with its own unique lifestyle and traditions. The people who contributed to science, jurisprudence, and jewellery making became the greatest value of the city.
